This year is looking to be a challenging one. Financially, the failure in passing the levy translates to a larger budget gap for the district to cover. In the big picture, districts throughout the state will continue to suffer financially due in part to the poor tax structure in place. This translates to cash strapped school districts and trickles down to the community through budget cuts, program elimination, and staff cuts. All this leads to under-paid, over-worked, and over stressed staff. This, we cannot ignore as it has a catastrophic effect on morale within our district. I recommend that you educate yourself and voice your concerns at the upcoming budget listening session on 1/24.
Nationally, the economy is projected to continue the recovery at a moderate pace. The level of output is now higher than it was in 2007. Economists do see the light at the end of the tunnel, it’s a matter of how long it will take us to make it out.
Please join us at the next chapter meeting, 2/11 at TSC. This is a Saturday meeting and we’re looking for a large turnout. Some of the issues we’ll be discussing are: Employee Emergency/Personal Businessform, 2011-2014contract, budget matters, OSEA Beaverton Chapter night with the Winterhawks, Chapter Scholarship, and much more.
