Help Elect Pro-Worker Candidates

The election clock is ticking down.  Many primary elections for municipal candidates are held in September.  Winners in the primary elections will go on to run in the November 3rd, 2015 Municipal Elections.  Are you interested in running for a municipal office in your town?  Maybe you know of another Union member thinking about running for office?  If this is the case, please call the A&R Union office at 860-953-1316, and be put in touch with the A&R COPE PAC Committee.  COPE PAC is the Committee On Political Education Political Action Committee for our union.

Your collective bargaining rights - wages, benefits and voice are under attack!

August 4, 2015

As a member of the Illinois Federation of Public Employees (IFPE) Local 4408, your collective bargaining rights – wages, benefits, and voice – are under unprecedented attack.

Governor Rauner and his “negotiators” are relentless in their extreme demands for public worker takeaways. Regardless of his public rhetoric, it's evident that Rauner wants to force a government shutdown and worker strike. Look no further than his political speeches and his effort to recruit retirees to do your work during a strike.

The Governor recently vetoed Senate Bill 1229 – union-supported legislation that would give public employees the option to choose common-sense binding arbitration over Governor Rauner's political attempts of a lockout or a strike.

Lawmakers can vote to override the Governor's politically driven veto, but they must hear from you!

It's critical that today you take the simple action of emailing a bipartisan group of lawmakers who can vote to override SB1229 to ensure a fair contract, a continuation of public services, and sanity in the decades-old contract process.

Click here to email legislators today.

More about SB 1229:

  • Provides an option for public employees in state agencies to choose binding arbitration as a solution to difficult contract negotiations. Unions would not be required to use it.
  • Only impacts state agency contracts through 2019
  • Parties will still try to negotiate a settlement, but after 30 days of mediation and one side initiating impasse arbitration, an arbitration panel would be selected. Once the arbitration hearings begin, the right to strike would be waived and a lockout would be prohibited.

Take Action Right Now.

Our families don't deserve to be collateral damage because Governor Rauner wants to force a strike. Illinoisans who rely on your work don't want public services to stop because of one man's ideological obsession.

Tell lawmakers to put a stop to Governor Rauner's agenda. Tell them to override his veto of SB1229.

It takes just a few seconds to make your voice heard. Click here to send an email now.

Dual Employment w/ the State now less restrictive

DAS released General Letter #204 revised - Dual Employment May 12th, 2014.  General Letter #204 effectively limited or prevented most A&R employees from obtaining dual employment with the state.  The General Letter was in response to a change in interpretation by United States Department of Labor of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).  After many discussions at both the State and Federal levels, DAS has revisited its approach to General Letter #204.
