The Next Legislative Session Starts TOMORROW

The Louisiana legislature has convened a Special Session to begin Monday. It shall end no later than 6 P.M. on October 27, 2020 and there are 70 different items that may be subject to legislation during the session. Included in the items enumerated in the Call are state tax revenue and school funding, among others.

Because the session was called so quickly, there are still any number of different bills being written that could impact teachers, support employees and our students. While the session may be short, decisions will be made that could have a lasting impact on Louisiana schools and it is vital that educators stay up to date about the ongoing issues.

We are the elected leaders of United Faculty and Academic Staff (UFAS, AFT #223). As a union that represents faculty and academic staff, ensuring safe campus spaces for workers and students alike is at the core of our mission.

As is true of every year's bargaining efforts, CCEA is dedicated to ensuring all educators in Citrus Schools receive substantive and equitable pay raises. Each year seems to present a different set of challenges--performance pay requirements, Best & Brightest bonuses, etc--and this year is no exception.

Observation Update

Late this afternoon, the state released guidance on the observation and evaluation process

In her September New York Times column, AFT President Randi Weingarten says that going back to school has never looked like it does now. Weingarten explains that because of President Donald Trump’s response to the coronavirus, which has been chaotic, contradictory and inept, and the lack of federal guidance and funding, we’re seeing a patchwork of school reopening plans across the country.

This school year has had a start like none other! These are unprecedented times. We thank you for your resilience. A special thank you to those who have used the JFT reporting form to document concerns at your school/worksite. We are using this information to inform the district about your concerns and work through resolutions. Please remember, issues cannot be addressed, if they are not documented and shared with our staff.
