The way we work as paraprofessionals and school-related personnel changes over the years.
Think of the changes our retirees have seen over the course of their working lives. Just the technology alone — think of those changes.

On Saturday, April 29, 2017, union delegates from across the state of Maryland attended our Statewide Advisory Meeting which was held at MCEA Headquarters. President Linda Day called the meeting to order at 9:00 A.M. The meeting was well attended but very somber due to the unexpected passing of Agnes Valenzia, MCEA Executive Vice President. Agnes had been a member of MCEA for over 30 years and was a great friend and a loyal advocate of MCEA.
It is with deep regret that MCEA announces the passing of one of our dear beloved members, Agnes Valenzia. Agnes joined the ranks of MCEA in the fall of 1985. Before the ink was dry on her MCEA membership card she began volunteering for different committees within her local chapter #022 at the MVA.
Poor indoor air quality is a major issue in state-owned and lease buildings. Because there is currently no standard for indoor air quality in MD, MPEC is unable to hold the state accountable for the issues members are suffering due to poor conditions in their work buildings.

What's best for educators is best for students! Let's put students first and negotiate a fair contract before the end of the school year!
1. Longevity is tied to total years of service in Newark only and doesn't have to be consecutive.
2. It's not tied to steps
3. You would start getting your first longevity at the start of your 15th year.
4. If someone was about to get longevity, and the contract froze...they will get it in their retro
5. Longevity is added to salary every year...not divided over the years.
6. Second longevity REPLACES first longevity when you reach your 20th year
7. Third and fourth longevity is ADDED TO second longevity.
