September 7, 2016--Bargaining at St. Francis Hospital began with a tremendous show of support from union members, elected officials, healthcare professionals, community and faith leaders, and neighbors of the hospital. A powerful message was delivered to Ascension Health--the largest nonprofit healthcare corporation in the country--that Ascension should put patients before profits, keep St. Francis and St. Joe's open, and keep the quality healthcare services and good, family-supporting jobs in our community.

Colleagues,
1) Paydates: Today is the first payday of the year. It should be a seven day check for full time staff (per diem staff are paid a week behind). If you have any issues with your check, please email Mike Maillaro at mmaillaro@newarkteachersunion.com. Attached is the list of all the pay dates for the year from our upcoming calendar book.
Brothers and Sisters:
Please call or email your legislators ASAP and throw your support behind Senate & Assembly bills S2372 & A3929 that establishes State School Aid Funding Fairness Commission. These bills would increase funding for Newark by $90M. Help us avoid future layoffs that will occur under Christie’s $6,900 per pupil state aid proposal. Find your legislator here http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/members/legsearch.asp and help us thwart the Governors ill-fated proposal.
In Solidarity,
John M Abeigon
