EMUFT LEAD Organizing Fellows - Call for Applications
EMU Federation of Teachers (AFT Local #9102) is announcing openings in our EMUFT LEAD Organizing Fellows Program. This fourteen week fellowship program is designed to develop fellows’ skills in organizing union members, as well as provide experience with designing and implementing union campaigns to achieve membership growth. Fellows will learn about the daily work of labor unions and will increase their own capacity to be active members and leaders in the labor community.

Houston High School student designs LFT holiday card
(Lake Charles - November 22, 2015) Collin McInnis, a senior at Sam Houston High School’s LCB Academy in Lake Charles, is the designer of the Louisiana Federation of Teachers’ 2015 holiday greeting card. Collin’s art teacher is Bobbi Yancey.
LFT presents School Bell Award to Jim Engster
(Lake Charles – November 23, 2015) Influential radio host Jim Engster was recognized by the Louisiana Federation of Teachers today for his coverage of education issues in the state.
BESE Members Beebe and Hill are LFT’s Friends of Education
(Lake Charles – November 23, 2015) Dr. Lottie Beebe and Carolyn Hill were named today as the Louisiana Federation of Teachers’ Friends of Education for 2015. The Friend of Education Award is the highest honor that the Louisiana Federation of Teachers bestows on non-members of the union. It is presented to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to public education.
Federation chapters receive Union Values in Action Awards
(Lake Charles – November 22, 2015) Seven local chapters of the Louisiana Federation of Teachers today received the Union Values in Action Award for improving the lives of members, enhancing the influence of the union and advancing the mission of public education.
