Medicare "DocFix" Bill Passes in Senste

This week, the Senate passed the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 to repeal the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula that determines Medicare physician payments and extend the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for two years. Congress has acted 17 times to temporarily prevent drastic payment cuts resulting from use of the SGR formula.

On the conclusion of the 2015 Maryland Legislative Session

"After a long and sometimes hotly debated legislative session, the state is better for the admirable bi-partisan work done by the legislators. I want to start by thanking the state legislature for its efforts in finding the funds to educate our children across the state and also for keeping state worker pay as it is.

Tell Gov. Hogan to fund our PUBLIC schools, workers

Governor Hogan needs to hear from you! After the legislature has done it's job to find the money necessary for the education of our young people, Governor Hogan won't play ball. He even tried to introduce a backdoor voucher program that would take PUBLIC TAXPAYER money and give it to PRIVATE schools. The governor is also holding state employee pay hostage, despite the fact that the legislature found the money to avoid state employee pay cuts.

Gov. Hogan Playing Games with Education Funding

In the final week of the Legislative Session, Governor Hogan is on a mission to see his agenda through. Unfortunately his agenda is a reverse Robin Hood, taking from those who need it most and rewarding those who can survive without it.

NYSUT: We need to fix this broken system to help all students

ALBANY, N.Y. April 2, 2015 — New York State United Teachers President Karen E. Magee today released the following statement in response to Regents Chancellor Merryl Tisch’s suggestion that high-performing school districts could be exempted from the new teacher evaluation system:

Vote on April 7!

Wisconsin's spring non-partisan election will be held on Tuesday, April 7.  A state Supreme Court race is on the ballot, as well as a proposed amendment to our state constitution and many local races for school board, mayor, and city council.  AFT-Wisconsin, along with other state labor organizations including the Wisconsin AFL-CIO, has endorsed Justice Ann Walsh Bradley for Wisconsin Supreme Court, and a "no" vote on the proposed constitutional amendment to take the selection of the Court's Chief Justice out of the hands of Wisconsin voters.  Justice Bradley has a proven track record of standing up to special interests, and she votes impartially for fairness and justice for the people of Wisconsin.  For more information about local races, consult the Wisconsin AFL-CIO's list of endorsed local candidates - and please share with your family, friends, and neighbors!
