WE ARE BRIDGEBUILDERS
“…The builder lifted his head: “Good friend, in the path I have come,” he said,
“There followeth after me today
A youth whose feet must pass this way.
This chasm that has been naught to me
To that…youth may a pitfall be,
He, too, must cross in the twilight dim;
Good friend, I am building the bridge for him.”

My Fellow Members of Local 1220:
Welcome to a New Year – a year that will be filled with challenges and change – as is each new year. Welcome to a year when you again have a chance to make a difference in the life of some child and help that child prepare to serve and lead. Welcome to a new year when you will again demonstrate that we are a cadre of educators and support staff who are dedicated to the ideals and purposes of this school district for we ARE the district. Welcome to an educational arena that gives each of us the opportunity to teach, to learn, to assist, to serve as a role model as well as to tell the LOCAL 1220 story of solidarity and unity in all we do.
As bridge builders, we are unequalled in every front. As bridge builders we give our very best to every child. As bridge builders, we use our wisdom and knowledge individually and collectively to set high standards to teaching and learning and we instill those qualities in our students. As bridge builders, we collaborate, communicate, dedicate, articulate, orchestrate and demonstrate cutting edge practices that assure and insure continued high standards. We are bridge builders who exert our collective power – both educational and political – for the benefit of our students and our community. We thus, tell the Local 1220 story and continually when eventide comes, we have no fear of the future.
Let us go forth with a renewed commitment to make a difference, to make a change, to employ new techniques to enhance the standard techniques, to eliminate the negative and accentuate the positive, to count each student in and to be counted ourselves. This will be a splendiferous year. This will be another successful year. My sisters, I am counting on each of you to dare and to do for the betterment of our youth for they are our future. As your president, I welcome you each and salute you each for being a bridge builder.
Yours in solidarity and education,
Peggy Lewis LeCompte
