As Beaverton Chapter 48 is the largest chapter in the state it is almost impossible to hold a
function and include all of the 1687 classified staff members, so our Executive Board and Field
Rep went out to them during Classified Appreciation Week and delivered specially ordered For-
tune Cookies Monday through Thursday.
Our fortunes said “Your hard work is appreciated, No Classified Left Behind, Thank you for eve-
rything that you do, Support your Union Brothers and Sisters, OSEA says you will have a great
week, We Appreciate your Hard Work, Direct Action gets the goods, A fair days wage for a fair
days work, Solidarity Forever, Classified Staff ROCKS, The time to come together and support
each other is NOW or BSD is Lucky to have YOU! We delivered enough for every classified per-son at each of the 63 sites. We were also able to hold drawings at each site for Fred Meyer or Powell’s gift cards, a sweet surprise for the winners.
We presented the Beaverton Clothes Closet a check to help out our Beaverton community stu-
dents. We invited all of the local and federal legislators that serve the Beaverton area to visit
BSD and walk in the shoes of a Classified Employee. Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici took
us up on our offer and came out on Friday to BSD’s newest K-8 school, Springville. While visit-
ing Springville she was able to chat with the secretarial staff, a special education instructional
assistant, Kindergarten instructional assistant and Work Site Rep Julia Salmon. Along for the
visit, representing our Executive Board was Dianna Hess, OSEA President Tim Stoelb and Field
Rep Kim Bonner. We are grateful for Congresswoman Bonamici’s interest in the needs of our
members. Our week was rounded out by the Zone 1 meeting held on Saturday with Zone 1 Di-
rector Steve Specht, Government Relations Ed Edwards, OSEA State President Time Stoelb and
AFT Benefits Rep Dennis Ziemer. We had members from TTSD, NWRESD and BSD in attend-
ance. Classified Appreciation Week 2013 was an exciting week for all!
